Little change in mood or any character development compared to Golding's book

I saw this performed by a youth theater. The script warns not to change a word of it so I think what I saw was the script. I was disappointed. Ralph, Piggy and Jack have their distinct personalities from Golding's original but the other kids were similarly, loud, argumentative and hyperactive. They argued all thru the script and it got boring. Simon was not quiet watching and dreamy -- He argues face to face with Jack which also makes Jack less threatening. Simon rants about past experiences when he meets the Pig Head on a stick and has a seizure instead of going into a trance and the Pig Head does not speak to him. The twins, instead of being so in tune that they seem to be one person, argue and tease each other, and their sharing of words in a sentence seems like a gimmick. Roger is slightly more aggressive than the others. The characters do not change over time. They have the same personalities and level of sanity as at the start. In the script, it is not Piggy who suggests they build the fire on the beach when they are scared away from the mountaintop -- in the book, Ralph is amazed at Piggy's sensible logic because he is so stressed he cannot think straight. Ralph does not start to lose his mind in this script, forgetting that the goal is being rescued. In the beginning, Percival Wemys recites his name and address at the beginning, but he does not try to and fail at the end (as he did in the book). Key incidents were left out. In this script, Piggy says his name is Piggy, instead of saying he hopes they don't call him what they did at school and that was Piggy. The confusion of the nighttime attack when Piggy's glasses were stolen by Jack is not shown in the script by Jack realizing that it was one of the twins he was pummeling in the dark, instead of one of the attackers. The ineffective meetings were not shown, with votes for things to happen that never happen and the tippy log that kids fall off of disrupting the meeting with laughter, but no one thinks to shove a rock under it -- this is not shown in the play, nor is Jack realizing how easy it would have been to fix it. And the final scene, in the book the boys look stunned as the adult appears and takes charge, and his questions lead them to realize the horror of what they created, and Ralph sobs for the loss of a friend whose name he never learned, but was called Piggy. That does not happen. The adult asks too many questions, Percival does not try and fail to give his name and address, and it basically is the adult talking, the boys remain agressive, and then the show ends. It is possible that the performance i saw had missed lines or mistakes in acting or bad directing. It is possible I am misrepresenting the script. If so, please tell me and I will edit this.

Powerful adaptation of Golding's novel

This is a wildly powerful adaptation of the novel. The story remains as dark and dangerous as in the novel and the characters make a successful transition to this dramatized version. The script also includes the author's remarks about a personal connection with William Golding that makes for an interesting story. I recommend this script!
