Poetry is created in the kitchen

I just finished this book and it was wonderful. I read it in about 3 days. I loved the poetry in the prose of this book. Not so much descrtiptions of the places but the descriptions of the heart and the emotions of these mainly two chartacters were feeling. It was refreshing that there was no sexually discussions but just honest and gut-wrenching emotions shared by these two characters. However it was done in bits and pieces. Short paragraphs much llike we live our own lives and deal with these emotions ourselves. The ending was lovely but open which again was refreshing. I just loved it.

The title immediately creates curiosity.

Yoshimoto, much as she was very young when she wrote this book, understands the emotions of people. Presents a non judgmental view of life from her perspective but also shows the lack of tolerance by others. I think many young people would associate with the raw emotions presented here but likewise older people will reflect on how their past has affected them. It challenges the reader to look at themselves and those around them and to effectively not be afraid to be themselves. The title is fascinating and causes curiosity until one enters the book and then I think many would associate with the kitchen as being the hub of the home.
