Richard Williams is best known as the Director of Animation and designer of the new characters for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, for which he won two Academy Awards including a Special Achievement Award.
Canadian-born Williams has won three US Academy Awards, three British Academy Awards, and an Emmy among 246 international awards-- starting with his first film The Little Island in 1958.
Williams has also animated title sequences for Return of the Pink Panther, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, What's New Pussycat, Casino Royale and linking sequences for The Charge of the Light Brigade, as well as countless prize-winning commercials.
In 1990 he was voted by his peers as "The Animator's Animator," and in 1995 he started giving the Richard Williams Animation Masterclasses for professionals and students worldwide in London, Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, Sydney, Hong Kong, France and Denmark.
He lives with his family in Wales and works as an independent film-maker.

Lets say..

[[VIDEOID:mo3G4F7S00KBPZ3]]i made this in like 5 minutes with my ipod, so dont kill me.. i know it gets a little uncomfortable to watch when i turn the device.
this is not a "review".. its just a better "look inside", in my opinion this is a must have for every animator..
i think amazon should allow besides reviews, also accept "look inside" videos so you will really know what you are buying

Deep, Expansive Resource

This book is filled with everything from the bouncing ball to tips to avoid twinning, from the general notion of volume conservation to animal gaits. It can be intimidating, but a couple reads of Williams is like being in he presence of years of experience. At first the presentation is systemic and historical, but after a while it starts to become more disorganized. This is just the nature of things, eventually one starts specializing. Due to its depth, Williams may not be the best book for a beginner (if one can get past its 40's drawing style, Preston Blair's textbook is still tops, though Blair is theory light compared to Williams), because it may be discouraging to see such depth right off the bat. I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone interested in animation.

A Must-Have. No. Really. I Mean It.

I'm not going to write an in-depth review listing pros and cons. All I will say is if you're an animation student, buy it.
This book goes over the basic tenets of animation, and several things your instructors will drill into your head. My 3d animation teacher tells us three things when we start our projects, and that is "Reference, reference, reference."
This book is worth its weight in gold if you are an animation student. Buy it. You will not regret it.
