Actor Lee Marvin's widow has written a touching book that concentrates on their years together, though she mentions nearly every performance, from his coffee-throwing hoodlum in The Big Heat through his Oscar-winning gunslinger in Cat Ballou and beyond. Pamela Feeley and Lee Marvin fell in love in 1945, when she was 15 and he was a 21-year-old veteran; they parted in 1948 when he left Woodstock, New York, to pursue his acting career. In 1970, both divorced with children, they met again and married. Instead of the usual "and then he starred in" chronology, Marvin offers chapters on the couple's mutual passions, like fishing and Australia, plus 200 pages on the infamous 1979 palimony suit filed by ex-girlfriend Michelle Triola (who, unsurprisingly, comes across as a vengeful nut). Peculiar though this structure is, it works. As the author moves backwards and forwards in time--opening with Marvin's 1987 burial in Arlington National Cemetery with full marine corps honors, and zigzagging from their youthful romance to their marriage, his war service, the palimony trial, and the final years of ill health--a moving portrait emerges. She is frank about Marvin's drinking and other peccadilloes, but her loving account stresses his generosity, loyalty, and old-fashioned sense of honor. --Wendy Smith

Lee: Amazing Actor - Most Insecure Man

Lee Marvin is, by all accounts, one of the greatest actors of all time. Because of my fascination with him and his films I have picked up many books about him: The Donald Zec biography, The biography by his first wife Betty, the newest release "Point Blank", and now this one. I find that is it sometimes a tremendous let down to really "get to know" an amazing actor because sometimes you find details and truths that are unpleasant. But these facts do nothing to deminish the acting ability of this great man. However, the choices Lee made in his personal life, namely with women, are absolutely atrocious. He chooses weak, unintelligent, deeply insecure, terribly needy (and often unattractive) women to share his life with. If each of the main women in his life (2 wives and Michelle Triola) don't have all of the qualities I've listed above, they each have at least a couple of them. But since this is Pam's book, let's stick with her for the moment. She is self serving, manipulative, and a first class snob. (Triola was perhaps the most unintelligent person on the face of the earth as her testimony in the court transcripts in this book can attest) but Pam is a shrew. Some examples written by her in this book: 1. Pam washes her hands when a poor manual laborer shakes her hand on the set of Pocket Money - the laborer said he worked "graveyard" and although he meant the shift, Pam immediately rushed to wash off his touch. I wonder what she thought she could catch if he actually DID work in a graveyard? 2. Pam is disgusted by Lee's acceptance of a poor child's request to join him for lunch at his home amid poverty while on the set of "Pocket Money" and then she's astounded when the child's house is actually well kept (I guess she didn't know that poor people can have pride in their surroundings.) 3. Pam expected (and was disappointed when she didn't receive it) a new car or emensely expensive piece of jewelry on their first Christmas after getting married. 4. Pam manipulated Lee to omit his own children out of their inheritances (and his life) by making sure her children were first, foremost, and most present in his life. These examples are just to name a few. Lee married this woman as way to get Michelle Triola off of his back, but it's a rather weak man who would go to these lengths and allow the Michelle situation to go on for SIX YEARS! Also, in the newest publication "Point Blank" we hear that at the end of Lee's life, he tried desperately to get rid of Pam. (I can't blame the poor guy) I will never change my tune about his talent, but personally, in spite of his physical beauty and his overwhemling talent, this guy was weak and unappealing - just like all the women in his life (although his first wife Betty is clearly the best of this lowly bunch) A tip: don't read too much about Lee - just watch his talent in films - he's never bad - always intense - always the greatest...on film.

LEE MARVIN BIO? DON'T BE FOOLED!

The title of this book is Lee: A Romance, as if to suggest it is a biography of legendary actor Lee Marvin and the love life the author spent with him. That's NOT what this book is. It is the author's autobiography and her years with and without the famous movie star. His most influential period in film history, the mid and late 60s, is completely ignored. Instead we read about Pame Marvin's countless other relationships! Don't be fooled by this book -- a great biography on the life of Lee Marvin has to exist some time but it certainly is NOT this book!!

WHAT AN INTERESTING AND WONDERFUL STORY OF A TRUE WAR HERO THAT WENT ON TO BECOME A SCREEN LEGEND. PAMELA MARVIN SHOWS LEE WITH HIS GREAT SMILES, ABILITY AND,.....HIS WARTS. I PUT OFF FINISHING THE BOOK FOR SEVERAL WEEKS DREADING THE END OF THE STORY OF MY HERO OF MANY DECADES. ELVIS IS GONE, AND SO IS LEE SOMEHOW, WE NEED MORE OF LEE. THANK YOU PAMELA.
