I cannot recommend this book highly enough

In this astonishing study of Jesus as Woman Wisdom, Sally Douglas carries on important work in the vein of Elizabeth Johnson, Elisabeth Schussler Fiorenza, Elaine Wainwright and others in recognising what has historically been neglected and suppressed: 'Jesus is imaged, understood, celebrated and worshipped as the female divine'.
With early Christian texts such as Proverbs, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Colossians, Matthew, and John as the subject of her analysis, Douglas speaks of an understanding amongst early Christian community of the divine as Jesus as the incarnation of hochma (Hebrew) and Sofia (Greek), translated in English as Wisdom. FEMININE Wisdom. This is an understanding that transformed the early Christians in their hearts and in their communities.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It comes in the proud and growing tradition of uncovering the truth of an early Christianity distorted by subsequent patriarchal stratification.
